Our History

RH emerged from discussions in 1981 between William Still, erstwhile minister of Gilcomston South Church, Aberdeen and Sinclair Ferguson, former professor of theology and current minister of First Presbyterian Church, Columbia, South Carolina. The vision was to establish a centre for evangelical scholarship and publication with a view toward supporting the church in Scotland.

About the Director

Dr Jason M Curtis

Before taking up the post of Director in June, 2008 Jason earned the MTh and PhD from New College, University of Edinburgh. The latter was completed in the field of systematic theology under the watchful eye of Professor David Fergusson. Prior to his move to Scotland, for nearly ten years he served as a minister in South Carolina during which time he attended seminary (Reformed Theological, Charlotte, NC), had two children, and improved his golf handicap. After moving to Scotland, though his affection for the game has never waned, his handicap most certainly has. However, in addition to his commitment to the church in Scotland, he maintains a strong commitment to regaining his previous form. Jason and his wife, Marya, have three boys who never tire of doing something else. Jason and Marya, on the other hand, usually tire of doing something else.

His work with the House involves speaking at conferences, teaching theology courses, preaching, writing, setting the vision for the House and saving the world. Jason serves as associate editor for the Scottish Bulletin of Evangelical Theology and is a member of the editorial board of the journal, Theology in Scotland. His vision is that both church and academy would embody 'faith seeking understanding'. The former often ceases its quest at 'faith' and the latter often overlooks 'faith' while seeking 'understanding'. Both projects are deficient. Thus, leaders and future leaders in Scotland must be strengthened and equipped for this mission.
